1. Which project was your most successful? Describe the theme and or topic and the process you went through to complete the project. Were the choices you made regarding material, size, technique, etc beneficial to enhancing this project. Please explain.
I believe my most sucessful project in Art II was my colored pencil bike wheel. The idea behind the project was to be inspired by Georgia O'Keefe, and use her close up imagry and create something that you see everyday, and make it into something new and unique.
As mentioned, this project was created using colored pencils, on a piece of tan paper. I choose this paper and color scheme because I wanted a kind of a rusted, but vibrent look to my piece. Im always inspired by things that look like its been places or has a history, so I wanted to give my piece that feel. I blended together an array of colors, and went light to dark when doing contrast. I never used just one color, but tried to blend together colors to create a visually appealing picture, that was eye catching, and unique. I also added a variety of color that wasn't exactly in the picture, but was colors that inhanced the values already in the picture. I love the use of lines, and how it all blends, and all compliments eachother, and all comes together without it looking disjuncted.

2. Look at your body of work over the semester and choose 2 pieces that show your growth as an artist. Discuss each piece and how you grew in the following areas: application of materials, techniques and skills, artistic vision, use of the principles and elements, creativity, intuition and subject matter.
The picture of the apple to the right is a water color of an apple that I did at the beinging of the of Art II. It also has alittle bit of pen and ink techniques through the sides with lines and stippling at the base, sides, top and stem of the apple. This mini-project took me six attempts to get right. I struggled with water color, but I also believe this is a good representation of what my art looked like at the start of Art II, not bad, but not as good as it could be. |
The image on the left with all the color is the last thing I did in Art II, which is a pre-sketch of my printmaking project, but this is using pencil and colored pencil. I believe this piece is a good representation of how I grew as an artist. My lines are alot cleaner, and my colors are alot more complementary to one another. I love the vibrant colors, and the reimagined idea from something that has been around for centuries. As an artist, I learned that I love bright colors, and I love using geometric shapes, and also I just love creating new, original ideas. I love creating things that no one expected, and creating something new, from an old idea or concept. |
3. Choose 2 mini lessons that you felt were the most beneficial in your learning for that particular project. Include photos of these and explain thoroughly. Do you feel you needed more instruction for success? Explain or did you feel that the instruction given was enough to ensure success? Explain.
Two mini lessons that helped me the most, was how to add value with colored pencil (shown on the right), and printmaking. For both of these examples, I had never worked with either, and both were brand new concepts to me. I had no idea how to add value and had never seriously tried blending colored pencils together. But, this lesson taught me how I could layer color to add value, and add depth to give a three dimensional appearance. It also taught me how to create a shadow. I used to only use black for a shadow, but learning to use colors like blue, brown and purple, have really given it a more realistic appearance. Our last project which was printmaking, I had never done that before, so this lesson was basically my first lesson on how to make a print. While this image shows the vocabulary, I learned more from the demonstration, and also just from trial and error. I was actually really scared to make a print because everyone around me was talking about how horrible the experience was, but I actually really enjoyed it and would do it again. There were also other mini-lessons that I found helpful such as the pen and ink techniques, because I never knew that you could create such techniques with pens, and also learning what size to use when which I found very helpful. |
